I’ve stayed at all five south-zone resorts in this guide — JW Marriott, Premier Village, New World, La Festa and Premier Residences. What’s interesting is that they split into two clear groups. JW Marriott, New World and Premier Residences sit in a row along Khem Beach and sell “ocean plus pool villa or residence.” La Festa and Premier Village sell something else entirely — location and view as the experience itself, one inside Sunset Town, one on a cliff above it.

1. JW Marriott Phu Quoc — the resort I recommend first to anyone visiting the south
JW Marriott runs on a “university” concept. Each building carries its own department theme — architecture, zoology — down to the details: the zoology wing has elephant and cheetah statues out front and topiary trimmed into rabbit shapes. It’s not just a pretty resort. Walking through it feels like touring a theme park.
The base room runs about 53 sqm, and every room comes with an ocean or pool view plus a balcony — a genuine overseas-resort feeling from the moment you open the door. Three pools, five restaurants, a running track long enough for a proper jog, a game room, and activities built for both adults and kids — the longer you stay, the more you get out of it. The one downside: it gets crowded during peak season.

2. Premier Village Phu Quoc — cliff-top pool villas, every single room
Premier Village sits on a cliff at the very southern tip of the island. Every room is its own pool villa, and it’s the only resort on Phu Quoc where you can watch both sunrise and sunset without moving.
It feels remote enough that you won’t want to leave once you’re in, but the facilities back that up — spacious kitchens and living rooms good for a big family, and an in-house app for requesting anything the resort offers. It’s popular with families, so there’s plenty for both adults and kids. Two things worth knowing: the resort backs onto forest, so the occasional monkey wanders into a villa, and because it’s spread across a hillside, you’ll want to call your buggy ahead of time rather than expect one on demand.

3. New World Phu Quoc — pool villas on Khem Beach without the luxury price tag
Whenever anyone asks me where to find a good pool villa on Phu Quoc, this is one of the three I always name. Every villa is a standalone pool villa, and most are 3-bedroom, which makes it an easy pick for a big family trip.
It sits right on Khem Beach, generally considered the prettiest beach in the south. The water is calm and clear enough for kids to play in, and the grounds are landscaped well enough that renting a bike to explore the property is genuinely fun. There’s a private beach, a kids’ club, three restaurants, and Lua — the restaurant by the main pool — is worth seeking out on its own.
The trade-off is service. Buggies are in short supply for the size of the property, so waits run long, and housekeeping needs to be requested by phone in the morning rather than showing up on a schedule. Water quality in the main and villa pools was a little behind the other resorts in this comparison too. Go in expecting “good value pool villa,” not “luxury resort,” and it delivers.

4. La Festa Phu Quoc — inside Sunset Town, fireworks from your balcony
La Festa sits at the center of Sunset Town, so stepping outside puts you straight into the lively European-style streets. The design draws from Italy’s Amalfi Coast, and it blends into Sunset Town’s own architecture almost seamlessly.
One booking tip: get the balcony ocean view room. The rooms themselves run smaller than most other south-zone resorts, but the white, teal and red interior keeps it from feeling cramped. What you’re actually paying for is the balcony — the ocean, the Kiss Bridge and Sunset Town’s colorful buildings all in one view, which is a sightline you can’t get anywhere else on the island. Fireworks follow the Kiss of the Sea show around 9:30pm most nights, and you can watch the whole thing from your own balcony.
The heated infinity pool is the other reason to book here. Swimming with the Kiss Bridge and the sunset as your backdrop, in a pool long enough that it never feels crowded, warm enough to use even on a light-rain day — it’s the kind of moment that makes the stay. Afternoon tea in the lounge (around 550,000 VND for two) is also worth it — good value for a hotel spread, and the lounge itself photographs well.

5. Premier Residences Phu Quoc — 5-star for less than anywhere else on this list
I used to point people toward Novotel or Crowne Plaza first whenever they asked about affordable Phu Quoc resorts. After staying here, that’s changed. It’s an Accor-branded 5-star, and the base room still comes in under $80 — right on Khem Beach, whose name literally means “ice cream” in Vietnamese, for how fine and soft the sand is.
I booked the penthouse for an anniversary trip — 256 sqm, two bedrooms, a balcony, a living room and a private pool, with three full bathrooms. Being residence-style, it comes with an induction stove, sink and a large fridge (cookware rents separately — when I stayed it ran about 1.2 million VND a day, though fees like that change, so buying a cheap pot at a local mart is usually the smarter move). Depending on which unit you’re assigned, you get a view of either JW Marriott or New World next door; mine looked toward JW Marriott. Sitting in the private pool with the ocean, JW Marriott’s colorful buildings and the green landscaping all in one frame is the moment that’s stuck with me.
The pool itself cuts through the middle of the property toward the ocean, broken into sections of different depths so it works for both a kids’ pool and actual swimming. Saturdays bring a bubble foam party from 4-5pm, and yoga, kayaking, muay thai, pizza-making and bartending classes run through the week (book at least 24 hours ahead by email). A free shuttle to Sunset Town and the Hon Thom cable car station also helps keep transport costs down.

If I want a design that’s an experience in itself and a proper honeymoon feel, it’s JW Marriott. For total privacy in a family pool villa, it’s Premier Village for the upscale version or New World for the value version. If I want Sunset Town’s nightlife and fireworks without walking anywhere, it’s La Festa. And if I’m optimizing for the best 5-star experience per dollar, it’s Premier Residences every time.
Across five stays, the south turned out to have a clearer split than the north: the Khem Beach row — JW Marriott, New World, Premier Residences — sells the ocean, and price mostly separates them from there. Sunset Town and the cliff — La Festa and Premier Village — sell the location and the view as the whole point. Decide whether you want to be in the water or in the scenery, and the rest of the choice gets easy.

Rates move by season, so treat the numbers above as a starting point rather than a quote. Both La Festa and Premier Residences turned out cheapest on Trip.com when I checked.
